I have a beautiful Lab and I love her to pieces. And not only do I love this amazing creature, she is increable brillant more so then most people I come into at my job. So I wanted to know if anyone else has a brillaint Dog and what kind?
My Dogs name was Chandra, She was a Black Lab. When I had my Process service business I would be able to take her with me everyday. She spent 24 hours a day with me. We would work together, Go down to the beach, go swimming, and sleep together (for all you sick people, that just means sleep) Because we lived on the beach I would give her a bath just about every night so she was always very clean. She would fallow me around the house and I was able to quickly train her to sit and stay in one place. I would be able to leave the house for hours and come back and she would still be there, not sitting but still there! I would bring a stick a ball and a frizzby to the beach and I could put them on the ground and ask her to give me one of them. She would be able to give me what I asked for. If there was not one to be found she would look up and down the coast until she found a ball someone might have left.
I took a girlfriend away for the weekend once and when I got home she was not there. The renters I had told me she left the day after I left and she never came home. I then found out that a police man, responding to a call, ran her over. They called the vet whom was not able to save her. =(
That was a few years ago. Does not hurt as much to talk about anymore.
Personally I think dogs are only as good as the time you spend with them. If they are treated with Kindness and respect and shown love like you would show a child they are more likely to also start to act more like a human in there own small ways.

Labs, although sweet and fun, are not generally knows for their brains. I worked in a doggie daycare before and saw some less than smart Labs. Your doggie sounds like a real treasure though!
I think Border Collies and German Shepherds are some of the more intelligent dogs.

Just like people, I think dogs are individuals. I don’t believe you can determine intelligence based on breed. They are all so unique!

Hello..no such thing as dumb or bad dogs, just bad or dumb people who don’t do things as they should, never met a dog yet I couldn’t train with firm No’s, praise & treats and we have had some sorely abused dogs, which we keep !! Some dogs are sooo smart they train their owners
Take Care

Growing up my family had a little shiatsu/cacapoo named Cor key. He is so sweet and good natured. Once when I was a teenager I went to go to the store across fro our house and he followed me. (we lived next to a high way and in order to get to the store you had to cross it.) and not realizing he had followed me I got half way across and was at the center divider and realized he was crossing all of a sudden a car knocked his back leg, and he fell and laid motionless in the middle of the highway, and a semi was coming. I didn’t think twice and ran right in front and scooped up my little curly haired friend, almost getting hit. My mother was not happy at all with me. But the bottom line, is I saved my dog. He isn’t the smartest dog , but defiantly loved!

I had the most brilliant and most handsome dog in the world Rex, a pure bred german shepard. I had him for 11 years, he recently passed away. He was my best friend, my buddy, when we’d travel I’d sneak him into the best hotels w/me, who din’t ‘take dogs’. I’d tell him to wait untill the coast was clear–then he run fast into my room–lol– I took him every where, Alaska, Europe, [restaurants in Germany, up escalators in dept. stores, the austrian alps,] all over the U.S.
oh God, thank you for Rex, I miss him so much. He’s at peace now in his own back yard, no more hip pain. G.S. are amoung the top 5 for intelligence.

No, I don’t. Keep in mind this fact - I don’t own one (never will), I only have this opinion through having worked with a some Labradors.
I personally think spaniels are some of the smartest dogs around. Closely followed by working breeds like Dobermans.

Nope. Great dogs, but not the smartest.
Why the heck should this matter to you? Take a clue from your dog. I’m sure she loves you to bits & would probably give her life for you. Does it have anything to do with how brilliant you are? I doubt it.
It’s called unconditional love.

No, not really, they are just more compliant than most other breeds.
A well known trainer from the past said "the harder to train, the smarter the dog"

There Are Several Intelligent Breeds Labs Are One Of Them Yes They May Lack In What We Consider To Be Common Knowledge But Labs Have The Ability To Learn Over 2000 Words And Almost As Many ""Tricks"". My Aunt Used To Breed Labs Of All Color And Border Collies And German Shepard’s And They All Have About The Same Degree Of Intelligence And As Far As Dumb Dogs There Is Not Really Any There Is Just Dumb Owners that Don’t Take The Time Or The Effort To Help There Dog UNderstand! So As My Aunt Would Say An UN-intelligent Owner Leads To And Un-intelligent Animal ( No Matter If It Is A Cat, Dog, Bird, Horse, Ect.ect.)

I really dont think Labs are that intelligent. I think they are just easier to train than other breeds. Poodles, Border Collies and GSD are known to be some of the smartest dog breeds. I have a Standard Poodle who is one of the smartest dog I have ever known. Ive also had a GSP, German Shorthair Pointer, she was as smart as a whip!
