My apologies - I mistakenly posted the wrong video in the wee hours of the morn’ today. For those of you who viewed it, you got to hear the drums w/out the music, haha. Anyway, this is me drumming to Pink’s songs from her Funhouse album.
First off - WOW, what a powerful album!!! Phenominal to say the least, and I’m not just talking about the percussion either. The music & lyrics overall are just raw power and oh yeah - the drums rock too, hehe! I know I’ve said this many times before but I seriously could not choose which songs to play from this album - I had 8 songs on the list and narrowed it down to these 3 songs, due to the diverse drumming in them.
Ave Mary A: I give Pink credit for being clever when naming this one. When I first heard the title of this song, I thought it was Ave Maria, which is religious. But Pink, as brilliant as she is, decided to go the non-religious route in the title but yet still sent out the same message. I love originality! This was my fav of the 3 songs to play because of the awesome funk style beat in the 1st verse & part of the 2nd verse.
Funhouse: Instead of playing the open/close hi-hat throughout the song, like the drummer did, I opted for two-handed 16ths during the chorus. I felt that it gave it a bit of a more “fun”, dance feel to it and I especially love the sexy (striptease) groove during the bridge. Let’s not mention the “evil clown” lyric too … was always afraid of clowns. I don’t care how happy they looked, there was always something scary about clowns. I’m glad Pink recognized this fear alot of us have of these things. haha!
One Foot Wrong: This song was odd to play but it was fun all the same, in a slower beat kinda way. I wasn’t sure if I was going to play this one but the more I listened to it, the more I fell in love it’s odd beat.
The drummer used a retro kind of sound for these songs so I changed the setting on my kit to the #13 Groove sound on the Roland TD-6. This sound gives more of a tinny, high-pitch sound to the snare and a bit of a more trashy sound to the cymbals as well. Not my fav sound but hey, what can I say - it’s retro.
Hope you enjoy them … I had a blast playing these fantastic songs.

(Book smarts definition: brilliant on paper/dumb in life)
I lack in both, so i try to B S my way through it. I would have to say that common sense smarts are better. Book smarts will only take you so far, cuz if you dont have common sense, your brain will not allow you to adjust. I worked with 2 guys that had high ranking degrees. One had a degree in aeronautics. the other a degree in microbiology. They ended up bein quality control guys. not doin anything with their degrees.
